Homestay message

Hello-

Our family has a large, quiet, comfortable home on a tree-lined street in the center of historic Oak Park, the first suburb west of Chicago. Oak Park is a central location for the city, many hospitals and universities, and for international professionals and students. Oak Park is also a very open-minded, welcoming community, with many diverse people living here. Frank Lloyd Wright\\\'s home and studio are located here, and Oak Park is also the birthplace of writer Ernest Hemingway.

Our home is two blocks from the elevated train line, the CTA Green Line, which takes you to downtown Chicago in only 20 minutes, where you can connect to all of the train lines. The suburban Metra train and bus lines are also nearby.

We have two daughters. Both have lived, gone to university, worked, and travelled abroad. Each of them had wonderful homestay experiences. We have been grateful for their good fortune, and know how important it is to offer a warm, supportive environment in our home.

Our daughters are in their 20\\\\\\\'s, and now share an apartment together in Chicago. Our oldest daughter worked for a company that arranges J-1 visas for international students. She has lived in Nicaragua and Ecuador, and is fluent in Spanish. She has now gone back to school to become a nurse. Our youngest daughter studied in Cape Town, South Africa, graduated from the University of Michigan, completed a one-year fellowship in Zambia, and is now a consultant specializing in higher education. Our daughters live in Chicago.
We have hosted international students and professors for six years. They have come here to improve their English language skills, complete internships, earn masters degrees, to teach, and to do scientific research.

We\\\\\\\'ve hosted a business professor from China, a scientist from Brazil, masters students from China and Libya, language students from Saudi Arabia and Brazil, a bioengineering student from Indonesia, art and writing students from England. We have private bedrooms for two students. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of Oak Park, Chicago, our culture, learning about others, world politics, and life in general.

We are a married couple who met in at university, moved to Chicago, and had a family. Marilyn is an account director at an advertising agency in downtown Chicago, and Phil manages a 10 year old building, which is an educational and cultural institution, located a few blocks away from where Marilyn works.

We enjoy healthy fresh meals, and get much of our exercise on long bike rides. We will prepare dinner three or four nights during the week, and provide food for you to prepare your own meals for breakfast, lunch, and other dinner meals. You will have a private room, a large shared bath, wifi, laundry, all utilities paid for, use of the living room, dining room, TV room, kitchen, front porch, back porch, and enjoy our large, secluded, landscaped yard, full of trees, flowers, and birds. Our house is professionally cleaned every two weeks, including all the shared spaces, your room, your bath towels, and fresh clean sheets on your bed.

We look forward to learning more about you.

Phil and Marilyn
